NEW HOME, NEW VISION, NEW CELEBRATIONS
FOR UNIVERSAL TAEKWON-DO FEDERATION

Fernley, NV-January 24, 2003. For 10 plus years, Universal TaeKwon-Do Federation (UTF) resided next to Scolari's Warehouse Market. And with the huge amount of growth and positive changes in Fernley, UTF is also growing and changing. "Last August when I started The After-School Martial Arts program, I was certain that we would outgrow our space. And with the success of the program we did just that," explains John Mariotti, Owner and Head Instructor. "Randy Poltl's [the developer] vision for a family orientated destination center and my need for a larger, more attractive multi-purpose facility appeared at just the right moment."

Larger is not the word. Huge would be more accurate. With over 2,000 square feet of space, the new studio is spacious and harmonious. The wheat and purple tones are vibrant and striking. Mariotti shares why he chose the color scheme, "I've had a vision, a dream to bring more to Fernley then just TaeKwon-Do for several years. Working with so many families, I came to realize that more was needed. My vision is to bring various disciplines of mind, body and spiritual health together in one place. A place that would contribute to the empowerment of individuals and families in the greater community." Thus the Nevada Center for Cultural and Martial Arts is born.

Mariotti's vision is to combine the ancient teachings of the true warrior culture and cutting-edge workshop leaders from around the country. His vision is to provide tools, experiences and training that empower individuals, couples and families to have great lives. Nowadays many people lead busy lives with multiple roles, rules and responsibilities. Modern science is proving that our bodies and minds are intertwined in ways that either create health or disease. The Center will have classes, seminars and workshops designed to educate the whole person.

The plans include five main skill-building training paths or tracks:
… Martial Arts: TaeKwon Do, Tai Chi Ch'uan, Mental Self Defense
… Expressive Arts: Dance, Music, Theatre, Poetry
… Relationship Arts: Communication Skills, Conflict Resolution, Connection and Intimacy
… Healing & Spiritual Arts: Yoga, Meditation, Chi Quong
… Leadership Arts: Communication, Dealing with Bullies, Conflict Resolution, Empowerment and Team building
"We are seeking qualified and visionary leaders and teachers to set up classes, workshops or seminars at the Center. All they need to do is contact me directly to work out the details," explains Mariotti. "Our first workshop will be led by Francesca Gentille on Saturday, February 15 for couples only, called 'In Honor of Love.' I felt it would be appropriate to start the Center with a workshop that would help bring couples closer together, creating a more loving environment at home." In the Expressive Arts tract is a workshop by the Millenium Dance Company set for March 9th, entitled Dance Alive! designed to create a more expressive dancer and improve dance skills. More workshops will be added soon.

Francesca Gentille has joined the Center as Co-Director and Calendar Coordinator. Gentille is a nationally recognized personal growth/relationship coach and workshop leader. She is also the director of The Lifedance Center in the San Francisco Bay Area. As Co-Director of the center Gentille sees herself as a key link to expert teachers. "The San Francisco bay area has some of the best personal growth leaders and teachers in the world. I am very excited to be co-creating this visionary new center for Northern Nevada that will host them and other talented local instructors."

A Grand Opening Open House is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2003 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This will give the public an opportunity to ask questions, see the facility and to enroll in classes or workshops. There will be a drawing for free classes and merchandise as well as discount coupons available. Grand Master Lou Grasso, an 8th degree black belt master instructor, will be the guest of honor. Board breaking, sparring, self-defense, belly dancing and ballroom dancing will be demonstrated throughout the day. Current TaeKwon-Do students will also be testing for their next belt levels. Nicholas Evans will be performing his black belt pre-test and Tony Wilson will be testing for his advanced red belt. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day.

John Mariotti is a third degree black belt in TaeKwon-Do under the tutelage of Grandmaster Lou Grasso, the founder of Universal TaeKwon-Do. He has been teaching in Fernley for over eight years. For more information, to be placed on the mailing list or to register for classes for yourself or your children, please call 575-6077 or 771-5722.
